How to Choose a Body Scrub for Your Skin

A body scrub is a popular body treatment that is like a facial for the body. It exfoliates and hydrates your skin, leaving it smooth and soft. Exfoliaters work to shed off the flaky and dead skin found on the topmost layer of our body. It also helps in removing the sebum and dirt accumulated on the skin.

A body scrub is done with an abrasive material like salt, sugar, coffee grounds, rice bran, even pecan hulls, usually mixed with some kind of massage oil and an aromatic like essential oils. There are a few things you should consideration in choosing a body scrub. One important consideration is how to get a body scrub that suit your skin condition. If you have sensitive skin then you’re better off choosing body scrubs that have finer granules. However, if you’re buying a body scrub to treat tough areas of your skin (elbows, knees, etc.) then you might want to choose a body scrub that has bigger and coarser granules. Good scrubs use high quality, natural ingredients without irritating chemicals or preservatives.

Gently apply your scrub with your fingertips in a circular motion. Be careful not to scrub too hard as to avoid blotchiness or redness on your skin. In general, it is a good idea not to use a face and body scrub every day, but just every few days, or once a week, as needed. Use the scrub on skin that is damp from a bath or shower, and scrub the product into the skin for a minute or so in order to get the most exfoliating benefits. Rinse off and apply a moisturizer for younger looking, softer skin.
